I am broadly interested in the evolution of social behaviors, particularly how the brain and genome have changed to confer social behavior changes. I currently work with house mice from Gough Island – as island isolation is known to induce a sweeping change in several behaviors, including social. Using these mice, I aim to compare their social behaviors to those of mainland house mice, and compare transcriptional and expression differences between relevant brain regions.

What made you choose this program at UW–Madison?

I attended UW–Madison as an undergraduate, and fell in love with UW’s campus and research environment. I was fortunate enough to pursue fascinating research as an undergrad in what was then the department of Integrative Biology, solidifying my choice to pursue graduate studies. I was especially drawn toward the iBio/Bio program not only because of my undergraduate research, but due to its flexibility with coursework requirements, given that my intended research has roots in several fields.
