I currently study the systematics and morphology of carnivorous pitcher plants in the family Sarraceniaceae. I am interested in their micromorphological features that help them catch prey and am reconstructing their evolutionary history to understand how their morphology and evolution are connected. More broadly, I enjoy orchids, bryophytes, extremophilic plants such as xerophytic ferns and succulents, particularly the genus Echeveria.

What made you choose this program at UW–Madison?

I chose to pursue my PhD at UW—Madison because of their world-renowned Botany program with a rich history of plant systematists, as well as the support and research infrastructure provided by the Wisconsin State Herbarium and Media Design Lab. UW also attracted me because of their wide plant programs spanning multiple departments across campus that create a welcoming plant science graduate student community.
